Building the woodshed

Here's the latest project...framing up the woodshed (16'wx8'dx8'h) . Should be able to finish it up this weekend.

Looks good Deerhunter. What are you going to use for the roof? Any sides going on? Or are you leaving it open for air flow?

Thanks! 1/2" OSB on top with paper & some composite shingles that the previous house owner left - I would have prefered metal, but I'd have to pay for that . Sides will have cross-members on 3 sides for stability but no panels (yet).

Good start DeerHunter. You'll really appreciate that when the snow's flyin'.
When I built mine, I had just enough paper and shingles to do the roof, leftover from the house re-roof a couple years prior.

Good work DeerHunter. After it is finished you no longer will have to cross stack except for the ends. That will speed things up a bit too.

That was the 2nd biggest reason for building this thing - hating tarps was the first.

Yeah, 10' in the front at the top of the cross beam. I wanted to have high stacks to maximize footprint utilization, and still have enough slope for the snow to (hopefully) slide off. Plus, it's just the right height for a b-ball goal If I stack it right, I should be able to get at least 6-7 cord in there.

That is curious??? Imagine, two similar looking woodshed in the same forum, how can that be?

Deer hunter, a wooshed is always a great investment for a wood burner, now your wood will always be warm and dry.... well, maybe dry anyway, the warm comes later.

Thats gonna be a nice looking shed DH, most guys build a shed and then haul the wood into the shed, your much smarter than most, you just built your shed over and around your wood piles

Looks good DH. You are certainly ahead of the curve getting a shed built the same year you bought your stove. I have been burning for about 30 years and still have not built a shed. I don't cover anything except the cord I have on the patio. I have thought of a shed a few times, just seems to stay lower on the never ending list.

I cannot tell you how much I love my woodshed . . . I often find myself staring at the fully loaded woodshed this time of year . . . sometimes from the lounge chair in the pool.

You too will come to love the time, energy and expense you are putting into building this . . . especially when you go out in middle of January and don't have to contend with a foot of snow and ice on top of the tarp and don't have to stand there in the falling, swirling snow while knocking the snow off the wood.

Yeah, exactly. I built mine so that the overhang of the shed where we get the wood from is covered by the overhang of the garage. So, you're very sheltered, even when the shed is full. There is about a 2' space between the wood & garage, making a covered alleyway, like in chinatown.
