can anyone id this wood?

Hi Im new to the forum. I recently got about 16 fairly large rounds of this wood. Before i hand split all of it id like to know if its good wood to burn in a fireplace. It does not appear to be any type of pine... no smell and no sap
Please help a newbie!

Besides, if it's seasoned...which it looks kind of green, it will burn and in my mind is worth the effort. Enjoy!

So do others think this is clean wood to burn once seasoned. Its not some form of softwood from what the previous poster thinks so thays good right?

the round to the top right in the first picture looks like ash.....the bigger round and split you have in the others looks alot like poplar or maybe even basswood.....

Not like the silver maple I cut....

Welcome to the forum Todd.

For sure that one is white ash and is excellent wood. Not so sure on the others. It could be soft maple but just does not look right. However, I have a terrible time with pictures. On the ash though, I am certain.

Regardless, that wood needs to be split and stacked out in the wind for a year before being burned. Sure, you can burn it sooner but most of the heat will go up the chimney because you would need so much draft to keep it burning. One can say for sure that all wood needs a year after being split but some needs more time! Like oak. We give that 3 years to dry.

SPlit & stacked it should be dried well by next year,
it shouldn't spark & pop like pine.
Should work well in a fireplace

The rounds look like Silver Maple & the split is definitely Ash.The maple will be great after its all split in 9 months to a year,the Ash after a year.

Whatever wood species they are, I don't see any reason not to burn them once seasoned.

With that one round of Ash(or perhaps Locust?) Hard to be sure from that photo. But I would know Basswood anywhere!

Hey all thanks for all the feedback. Great community here. I'll try to post some additional better pics tomorrow. But yes fuzzy ends on all those large rounds from that one tree I hauled. That was definitely present on all of them

1.Ok so the first two images are additional angles of what I posted yesterday. Seemed the consensus was basswood as the species. Let me know if these other two angles helps confirm its basswood or possibly something else.
Hoping it may be something else. Seems its not very good burning wood from the little bit of research I have done. So any opinions on that would be appreciated.

2 Mystery wood # 2 in picture 3. Any guesses?

3. Mystery wood #3 in pics 4 and 5. Anyone take a stab at these?
