Can you reduce length of double wall slip pipe by cutting it?

I see that the stove end is designed to accommodate the stainless adapter. i was wondering about reducing the top piece. Anyone have an luck and did it make a difference. The pipe that was sold to me is reduced to its max and barely comes off.
 
Even if this would work, insurance would LOVE to deny a claim (worst case scenario) if something would happen..... Everything done on your install must be compliant with ALL manufactures instructions. Again, this is worst case scenario.
