I just got this off CL this morning with my boys. It's only silver maple, but should be ok for shoulder season....

Any wood will rot if left on the ground. Hardwoods are more rot resistant than softwoods. Store off the ground. I use pallets. Some people use lawn timbers or pipe. I process as soon as I can and get it stacked on pallets to season.
