Coal stove?

I was given this stove. After some puzzling the inside pieces together, and asking around, I find out this is a coal stove setup. My question is: can the interior parts be taken out and the stove function properly as a wood burning stove? The coal grate setup also holds up some air flow path parts. Im not sure if this stove was designed for coal use, or the coal setup is an insert into a functioning wood stove. It is a Vermont castings resolute

It does look like a coal set up with a riddling grate. It may burn wood, but likely a bit quickly due to air feed under the coal bed.
