I am researching what I need as far as vent pipe for my new freestaning Harman XXV pellet. I see M&G Duravent and Simpson Duravent when looking at websites, so is Duravent a namebrand or a type of pipe?

Simpson Manufacturing purchased Dura-Vent and established a manufacturing plant in Vacaville, CA.
Another manufacturing company was set up in Vicksburg, MS to supply the growing demand for venting products.

Then what is M&G duravent? Is it the old company that was purchased?

Lol. There is an add for duravent. Right above my post

Be sure to get the same type of Duravent. I'd recommend pelletvent pro (PVP designation). It is multifuel compatible, and includes internal seals at joins. I have seen the old type of pellet only duravent pipe at TSC.

Simpson bought duravent in 1982 and they in turn were purchased by M&G in 2010. You can see the history of the brand on their website here (broken link removed to http://www.duravent.com/History.aspx) The different lines of venting produced are not compatible with each other, you can't use Pellet Vent Pro, with regular Pellet Vent or with older discontinued lines because they use different end connectors.

Regular Pellet Vent (non pro) is not rated for multifuel or corn use. If you are burning anything other than regular wood pellets you would need Pellet Vent Pro.
