Question:

I am trying to make a hearth for my fireplace. Is is possible for me to break glass and make a mosaic out of it for a fireplace hearth? I have a regular wood burning fireplace in my basement with no hearth. It is a concrete floor and I have a ton of stained glass pieces left over from some windows I made would be they work for a hearth? Or would they melt?

Answer:

Should be fine. The heart is mostly for spark protection when used on a concrete floor. Glass is not combustible, and would not break or melt at the temperatures found there.
