My brother had a low-speed collision with an elk in his Jeep Wrangler back in the late 1990's. Colorado, just crowned a hill on a steep and snow-covered mountain road, headed down, when he sees an elk appear over in front of him. He hits the brakes, but goes into a slow 5 mph slide down the hill. Hits the elk with one of the "wings" of his center-mounted front bumper, which folds the bumper back into the front tire. He said the elk just stumbled back a few inches, looked at him like, "why'd you do that?", and then walked away. He spent ten minutes kicking and bending his bumper off his front tire, before he could proceed on his way.
