A Hickory broke off at the base a good year ago and was hung up in another tree. The wind yesterday knocked it out of that tree into another tree, now at about a 45 degree angle to the ground instead of near right angle as previously. Cut it today. To give you an idea how shallow my soil is (rich, but shallow), this hickory eight feet up the trunk is 5 1/2 inch in diameter and is 54 years old. A 5 1/2 inch by 16 inch VERY DRY round of the trunk (cracks like a baseball bat) weighs 10 pounds.

Sure wish that had been on my place!!!

Some serious BTUs there.
Should burn well next season :)
