Doors for fireplace without hearth extension

I'm looking to install some doors on my fireplace that has no hearth extension. All of the doors I've seen online are to be installed with some sort of bottom support (like the extension). Can anyone recommend some doors that are designed to be installed in this situation? Alternatively, can anyone recommend how to install bottom supported doors in a way that will work for my situation? I'd like to install the doors in an overlap fit rather than an inside fit.

Stoll makes inside fitting doors for ZC fireplaces, they might make a custom one for masonry. Call them and find out.

I know about glass door!! Most new fireplaces come with glass doors. But if you want to add this safety feature to an existing fireplace, retrofitting them isn't difficult. The doors come in standard sizes that fit in any flat firebox opening.

In my opinion Wilkening builds the best sealed doors on the market. Keep in mind that they are listed for masonry fireplaces only. Give them a call and I am sure they can price you out something that will work.

What are you going to do about the hearth extension. A fireplace can not be operated safley without some hearth protection in front of the opening?

There's a tile extension on the floor, so the extension still exists. It's just not at the same height as the bottom of the firebox.

I'm going to threadjack my own thread, but my question is related to the original topic. Can anyone recommend a sealant to fill in the gap between the frame of the glass doors and the tile it sits on? It's a 1/4" gap at most. I thought that a fire stop sealant would be good, but I can't find one that's black.

Black silicone should work ok.

Well, there is a black Permatex, which is rated for higher temps than standard Silicone sealants. There are also several high temp silicones and RTV's sold thru McMaster-Carr, and I believe several of these are available in black.

I think what begreen is saying is that the outside face of the fireplace is not a particularly hot area.

Correct. Regular silicone is good for up to about 400F. It's unlikely that the face will come near that temperature but if concerned there is Mil-Pac black.
