Dovre model 300H, can I burn w/o catalytic ??

I have a Dovre Model 300H that came with the house. Used it the last 4 years and then realized it has a catalytic converter in it. Removed the top plate and found it, there are 2 vents from the firebox that remain closed because the handle is broken. Can I use the stove without fixing the vents? Can I take the funny looking round grate out of the stove and make the space for the smoke to travel up and out the flue larger? or is this something that needs to stay? I cant find any info on these stoves other than this site. Id really not have to take this thing outside to work on it and don't want to get a pellet stove unless I really have to....Ill add some pics today to hopefully give you a better picture of what I'm dealing with....

I have trouble getting a good draft and am wondering if it has something to do with the catalytic not working as it should or the room is to tight.....

Working right this is a fairly decent heater. It should have the turbulator in place to stir the wood gas before it enters the cat, but if I'm seeing right yours looks plugged. Is there a hole burned through it too? There is a Dutchwest baffle that is the same size but it will need modification of the attachment ears to fit.

Well I have it all cleaned out pretty good. It is not burned through, I think that was my stellar photography. There is a metal cc in the unit that was not sitting in the top of the "turbolater?". I re seated it in there...I'm assuming this is where it goes (see pic) . Not even sure how you would get the cc in there, without taking the top off? or removing the "turbolater"?. The lever to open two vents that are inside the roof of the firebox is broken, so I cant open and close these, can I prop them open? or should I just leave them closed? I still have the door and side vents.... Thanks for your time and help!!

I'm not familiar with the detailed working of this stove, just remembered working with a poster in an earlier thread when I saw your picture. I am going to assume the lever controls the bypass. If yes, this is essential to operating the stove correctly. You want to start the stove with the bypass open then get it up to temperature. At that point the bypass is closed to divert the flue gases through the cat.

I appreciate the help, I now know more about the stove and how it operates than I did before..
