Maybe in a beauty contest, but not in a 7 month heating competition.

One thing I like about the Mansfield better than the King is that without the fan the King can't generate the heat of the Mansfield. The Mansfield doesn't need a fan to heat an area well. The King does. The King without the fan on can't touch the Mansfield for heating an area. The ideal stove would be for the Mansfield to have the Blaze King's ability for longer heat times.Ya make a catalytic Mansfield using Blaze King technology now that would be heaven on earth.SolarAndWood said:BrotherBart said:Personally I think the Hearthstone Mansfield would kick any our stoves butts.

BigBlockChevy said:Beautiful looking home! Did you see that Wall of Flame deal at blazeking's web site. You can email pictures of your installation in your home and they then send out free prizes. I just forget to get a picture all the time.
Out west, we love the Blaze King's and cast iron stoves are not as popular.
Good looking installation!

Was one purchased becasue the other could not do the job alone? Perhaps you just have a large home?

In case anyone missed the initial hype, WS is reported to be working on just such a beast. . .except for the BK-style thermostat, but who knows. About the only thing we do know is that it's going to be a bigger WS. Considering that their largest current offering is 2.2 cu ft, I wouldn't be surprised to see something Mansfield-size next year from WS. See "New Woodstock" thread.Rich L said:The ideal stove would be for the Mansfield to have the Blaze King's ability for longer heat times. I think I have asked you this before? But How many square feet are you heating with the BK?
I'm not sure of the square footage I'm heating with then BK.The area is two and a half floors.Enclosed porch, front half of the first floor, second and third floors. It has to be at least 2000 sq.
Thank you,Hiram
I don't have any side shields on the King and yes the fan is a must except maybe during the shoulder months.SolarAndWood said:Rich L said:The King without the fan on can't touch the Mansfield for heating an area. The ideal stove would be for the Mansfield to have the Blaze King's ability for longer heat times.Ya make a catalytic Mansfield using Blaze King technology now that would be heaven on earth.
Hey Rich, do you have side shields on your stove? I have thought about ripping the side shields off my Ultra to reduce the dependence on the fan. I agree with you, I would never recommend to anyone to buy one without the blowers. I don't use it on low burn, but when I am on 12 hour cold weather burn cycles the blower is on.

My Classic and fireview could only give me about nine hours. So the coil is the difference maker for longer burns ?Den said:I dunno why more companies don't use a bimetallic coil autodraft. The technology is nothing new. I've seen crawlspace vents that use the same mechanism. BK does boast the longest times. Woodstock boasts 10-12 hrs. Did you find that?
Rich L said:My Classic and fireview could only give me about nine hours. So the coil is the difference maker for longer burns ?
Whatever it actually is,BK ain't telling.Den said:No doubt that some of the mojo is in the coil. Ginormous firebox is part of it too. WS is saying 10-12 hrs in a 2.2 cu ft box. Would a 4.4 cu ft "King-Size" WS get 20-24 hrs w/o a coil? Probably not. . .my psychic third eye can see a WS 50% larger than the FV @3.3 cu ft running 12-14 hrs. At some point, extending the burn time becomes a technical exercise because the btu/hr drops below the level of what many consider to be "useful" output. . .hence the many calls of foul on BK's boast of 40 hrs. I think I just read that the Princess is available in a non-cat version. It would be interesting to find out what the burn time is w/o the cat. Anyone feel like calling the factory? I'm thinking that the trick probably doesn't work without a cat. Then again, other cat stoves are not reporting "BK times," so yeah, I'll buy that the coil makes the difference. But the real mojo is probably in tuning the whole thing as a system and optimizing low-output performance.
