Hello fellow woodsmen, I'm trying to I.D. today's scrounge.

At first I thought it was Elm...but it split OK. Not great, but OK. As I understand, Paul Bunyan himself,
equipped with a 300 pound maul couldn't put so much as a dent in Elm.

Then I figured Hickory, for no other reason than Hickory leaves look sort of like Elm. Then, I thought Mulberry, because it was sopping wet, and looked/split like some recent Mulberry rounds I whacked to pieces. Could be Boxelder, too. Actually, leaning that way now...

All of this is a long way of saying I have no clue as to what I just scrounged. Those leaves on that small branch might be a telling clue...

Any ideas? Thanks all!

Box elder. It burns. When dry, burn it fast, it floats away.
