England Stove Works 25PDV Issues

5 years or so ago I walked into Home Depot and Spotted a 25PDV at half price and thought I was a lucky sob, apparently it was a return and was being sold as is. SO i took the chance and bought it. Set it up and everything seemed ok, only issue I had initially was the screw holes for the tabs that hold the glass in door where stripped out. Fast forward a few years and some experience and I start to realize I dont get nearly as much heat as others do from their pellet stoves. I keep the stove clean in and out (including taking the back panel off and cleaning everything)

anyways, i have read alot here and at other sites, and i still have issues

-Wont run at higher speeds-get error code
-Not much heat output (have tried many types of pellets)
-Pellets fully burn at lower settings but overflow at higher settings

any suggestions? i am seriously considering getting rid of it and going to wood or coal.. or am i missing something stupid?

Mine is overflowing as well at higher settings. The gasket around the window is letting out air so I suspect that is the problem. What temps can you get up to at what settings (from the air coming out the front). Mine ranges from about 150 in the lower settings to 180-200 at the higher settings depending on what I'm burning.

i got it apart right now.. at higher settings it will start to overflow and shut off and I will have an error code of some kind on the control panel..

How about giving the Tech's @ Englander a call? They always willing to give an assist and the call is free..........................

Higher settings require more air to burn all the pellets, which yours isn't getting. Typical symptoms of a dirty stove/vent pipe....not enough air can go through the stove to burn more pellets, and therefore, they start piling up.....not saying that's it 100%, but usually is the case.

And if the glass is loose, you will pull air into the firebox, but not through the burning pellets, resulting possibly in a poor burn/low heat.

Have you tried the leaf blower method for cleaning the stove?

As rottiman has suggested, have you given Englander tech a call? If you do, make sure you have the model# & serial # handy.

I guess the second half of the question I didnt ask it,, i have 1750ish square foot two floor cape, old house vinyl sided- new windows, this unit struggles to keep it at 60.. assuming it in good working order should I reasonably expect to use it to heat my home higher than say 65? really want to know do I put more money into it or do I look at switching to a wood stove or coal...

The leaf blower method simply uses a leaf blower that is attached to the end of your vent pipe, and sucks all the soot/crap out of the stove. Forum member krooser is the person who turned all of us onto this. Can't be used in every situation, but does seem to work well for those that can.

As for keeping your cape warm, that stove should keep your house warm (70+) no problem, unless it has no insulation at all, and leaks air like a sieve.

If all else fails, give the Techs at Englander a shot before you give-up on the stove.

allright guess I will go ahead and order all new seals and give it thorough cleaning (including a good leaf blowing).. then set it up and see what happens.. still have issues I will contact the techs and let ya know..

Dont leave a higher end pellet stove out of your options. There's plenty of good ones sold by hearth retailer neighbors of yours who will just be a phone call or short drive away if you ever need them

well dont think i stated it, the thing that seems funny is at higher settings the stove would get really hot, start to overflow and then completely shut down -leavin error on control panel..

well anyways thanks everyone and i will get back to this with whatever turns up (dont ya hate it when people dont let ya know the solution to their issue)

Dont leave a higher end pellet stove out of your options. There's plenty of good ones sold by hearth retailer neighbors of yours who will just be a phone call or short drive away if you ever need them

Heh,heh,heh. Franks, You make it sound like high end models are trouble free and the sellers more apt to be highly motivated and chomping at the bit to provide the customer with immediate service after the sale.
That`s only in a perfect world.

I thought that model was only good to 1500 Sq ft . It might be to small for your house .That should not make the pellets over flow and shut down though . Those bottom three buttons have probably been changed . I would call Englander and ask them what they are supposed to be at .Or do a search on here as I think I saw a post on this .

The bottom buttons are for low heat burning anyway (heat setting 1 or 2)....he doesn't have a problem at the lower heat settings.

EDIT: 25-PDV is supposed to be able to heat 2,200 sq. ft.

I had one of those stoves. I took the back panel off it and I found a vacuum loss due to the missing screws that go into the hopper. Plugged them and the stove burned much better. make sure the exhaust/pipe isn't plugged or restricted.
