After three years (yeah, I'm a procrastinator) I'm putting Ruxol up the chimney and around stove pipe. No excuses. Anyways, I'm looking forward to see how much warmer the house will be when I block off the big open, heat sucking, dead air space.

I'll be doing the same here in a couple weeks when I install my liner kit. Hopefully, one bale of the stuff will be enough.

My chimney sweep stuffed the opening full of Roxul and wrapped the liner. How much would a block off plate increase performance?

You might notice a slight increase. The upside to the blockoff plate is the seal and permanence of the install.

I finished up pretty quick but then I got to wondering if I put enough in there. I didn't pack it in, I put it in to where it stays put but should I pack it in tight?

No, I'm not going to put in a block off plate.

I'm working on uploading before and after pics and when I do I'll post them.

No reason to make it any tighter than comparable insulation in a wall cavity.

Decided to pack it a little tighter. I'm much happier with it now.
