When you swing back to cast, hit the dog in the face, scare the dog, he falls in, then you have to get him back in the boat...

It's probably time to call the day.

I say with great confidence, that a dog is more forgiving than a wife would be...
Yep. No puppy dog eyes from the wife after something like that.
Eyes yes. But different ones.

Had a Chesapeake Bay Retriever that would jump out of the boat when I casted chasing the lure. She would swim circles looking for the lure. I would get her in the boat, give her a stern reprimand, next cast overboard she would go. Packed up the fishing gear and made her swim home following me in the boat(trolling speed) about 3 kilometres.

Next time out fishing I left the dog at home. Unbeknown to me she ran the shoreline and popped out of the bush and started swimming towards the boat. Pack up the fishing gear again, this time she swam back to shore and ran home. Put her in the house and went back fishing, wife came home, let the dog out and she showed up on the shoreline again. That was her last fishing trip!

This was the first of 3 dogs and by far the most stubborn dog I’ve ever owned. The other 2 dogs knew that no meant no and were excellent fishing partners.

Always nervous with a dog and fish hooks.

This guy is sweet and lovable, but man is he stupid, lol.

He was probably sneaking up to get some attention and both of us got surprised, lol.

He’s all about the boat ride and is usually pretty good fishing. I’ve been busy with kid stuff so he hasn’t been out much this year.
