Well....not really. With 3 children and busy lives, I haven't had much time to cut wood. Last weekend my wife and I processed 3.5 cords of wood from the woodlot, and it took us to 11 cord or so in the stack. I usually don't buy wood since there's an unlimited supply, but when it's cheap enough, it's nice to get ahead. Well tonight on our way to pick up our son, we passed a very nice couple we've bought wood from in the past. At 125.00 for close to 1.5 cords of cut split and seasoned wood delivered, it's impossible to turn down , so we bought 2 loads. After this I should be at 14 cord, but I will continue to cut as time allows. While I don't wish winter to come early, we are ready.

If that is sin, call me Baal-zebub. Heck, we pay 200/cord for Lodgepole pine around here. Tamarack, 250 minimum. I scrounge most of mine, and cut the rest from national forest land, which we have a LOT of. If I was in a pinch, that price would sit just fine with me.

I agree with every bit of text in your post, Poindexter, the reply and your signature. Catalytic stoves, though in my experience are fussy, are the best choice for the environment. You must have happy neighbors. I'm really a fan of Jotul and BlazeKings, but I will admit to occasionally sinning (I have a Fisher Baby Bear in my shop that gets used 5-10 times a year). It burns a lot of Black Locust, which is good about burning clean anyway, and I never throttle it all the way down.

Like I say, I couldn't pass up the deal. I think there's hard maple, ash, beech and some others in the loads. The last 3 cords I processed was soft maple, so it will be nice to mix some of the harder stuff in. I about crap when I see the prices of wood from different areas. A also just bought our propane tank to free myself from inflated prices and non usage fees. We paid $.99 a gallon for LP. That makes wood burning harder at that price, but it's nice having options.

That's crazy! 3 years ago we filled our tank and it was 2.99 after I talked them down.

I know. My neighbor told me it was dirt cheap. I couldn't pass it up. The tank is refurbished for $799 + tax. I also pre bought another 600 gallons at $1.19. That's $0.05 cheaper than the "buy today" rate of the leased tank. You should check it out. I'm sure your prices will be very similar since you are only one county over (I'm in Huron county).

I had to bite the bullet and buy lots of propane this year as the new to me house's chimney is not worth fixing. I'm hoping to be back on the biomass next burning season.

We paid 1200 for a new tank and regulators installed. An amish man in wayne county wanted 900 for a used tank, and I would need regulators and an installation charge plus hauling. Total for the new tank was 1800 with tax, installation and fuel. A 500 gallon tank will last us over 3 years with a gas dryer, stove and furnace. I was paying over a hundred a year for a non usage fee, and the LP costs were 2 to 3 times higher. Hopefully next year I'll be purchasing another 500 gallon tank from a co worker.
