Getting into some BIG wood....

So my buddy tells me he has a big tree to cut up. No problem really, nothing we haven't tackled before......

Then he sends me this....



That thing was pretty gnarly with all the branches coming off of it willy nilly like and all. We didn't put a tape on it but my best guess is 40"+. Well over a foot to go with the 28" bar buried to the hilt.





Oh yeah, tons of noodling!

Got everything other than the stacked rounds to his house, only two houses down the street, but multiple loads. Even with some of the big rounds in sixths, they were a two man job to load!

So, count me in the 40"+ club?

These were the smallest rounds that we could fit on trailer. They were pushing 40"!! The biggest ones we noodled and put in another trailer. It was a Silver Maple, but still heavy as chit.

At least you could roll those! No way were we rolling these around with all the knots And branches, very irregular shape to it. So noodles it was.

I'll be cleaning up the OEM 460 and prepping it for sale this week. Maybe somebody would give a 361 and a little cash for that one? I'm still up in the air as to whether or not I ever want to sell the aftermarket saw due to the repaired crankcase. Perhaps to the right person as long as they were ok with what was done. Or maybe I should just send it to Randy?

BTW: the aftermarket 460 ran the chit outta that 28" ES light bar. I set it up with a 7 pin rim and skip chain for the noodlin' and it did great! Both saws were run pretty hard today. We ran about 2 gallons of fuel thru the both of them.

Good times. Big ones are fun.

I bucked a five footer a while back from a craigslist ad. This guy had a tree service take it down, but they didn't have enough saw to buck it . I got to play, leave those big b!tches where they were, and walked away with $100. Only time I've ever refueled after every cut.

I love cutting the big 'uns, lots and lots of work though. But you know you've got some big wood when you can get 40 or more splits out of one round........that's a good haul, MM!

Those maple noodles make great tinder bundles for use with the bow drill when making a friction fire. And the make a great co-friendly packing material for shipping items that you sell.........

This was all for my cutting partner so my job was to show up with the toys, kick arse, and haul the spoils to his place just down the street. I'll put him to work helping me split the several cords I have sitting in rounds on my driveway and processing a possible locust score I have up and coming.

Makes me want that 460 and that bar. Neighbor has an oak that been where it was dripped for like 18 months. Its about that size or bigger. Just about 25 foot of trunk. Solid all way thru. No one in town has a saw big buff. I probably have the biggest saws but nothing that size!! Live to tackle it!
