I should have known better. It was clear that it was a different color than most that I have. I had smoke coming out of the flue too, its usually clear. Would that do it? Sappy wood?
 
No,.not if burned properly (not smoldering). At least, in my set up.

Wet wood does.
 
Thanks, I didnt check the MC on those pieces due to the rest being really dry.
