My youtube feed has had videos about this product showing up the last few days. It seems to be used for bringing trees back to arid lands that had gone to desert.

Has anybody heard of these or see them in action?

link?

Interesting idea, it makes sense. There are devices like this to provide potable weather in very dry areas too.

There are several projects looking to reduce desertification. In India and the African Sahal they are planting millions of trees which act both as a barriers, but also as a foothold to start new ecosystems that retain scarce water. No water boxes there, but the trees are desert hardy and not agricultural. Here is another idea - liquified clay that seeps into the sand to help it retain moisture much better.

Reclaiming the desert is a great idea. Once the plants get started and deposit organic matter into the soil, I bet it's a chain reaction.

This is sorely needed in africa. It sure beats permanent food aid. Shows that sometimes the answer is complicated but very doable. Will help moderate temp swings and combat warming by ground cover.

Yeah, it would be interesting to see if a couple rows planted yearly could spread a forest in an arid area.
