Dang, that was fast. I put the link to that post in another thread here, and checked out a few other soapstone listings. It's amazing how many folks will post there stoves with dirty glass, ashes puking out the door, junk piled around the stove, and other little hints that the owner is careless or clueless. This poster, OTOH, sounded like he knew what he had, and therefore had probably taken care of it. Someone got themselves a sweet deal--$500 for an enameled Heritage.
I've seen em posted with a mound of ashes and trash in them, looked like something from the back 40.I never knew they enameled their stoves.I'll keep an eye out. That stove is over $3000 i believe.WOW!I'd have paid that much for the stone for firebrick.Well almost.
It was from someone who had bought it from--I'm not making this up--a little old lady who had only had two fires in it. He had burned with it for three seasons, and was moving into a house with no chimney, so was selling. Said he'd heated with wood for thirty years, and this was the best stove he'd ever had, that it heated his entire house (older Victorian, I think he said, so similar to the house the poster described in the other thread). That he had that much experience and was able to get that performance out of it told me he knew what he had and how to take care of it. I would have bought it in a heartbeat if I were stove shopping, and if I was a little closer.
I actually worry more about the guy who has been burning for 30 years and then tries to heat a big house with a stone stove. Odds are very very high that he overfired the stone stove and a good portion of his 30 years experience was certainly with a plate steel smoke dragon.
