Hello all from Middle Tennessee. I joined this forum as I will soon need help and I am hoping this is the place to find it.
First a little about me. I am from Ohio and I bought my first house in Ohio around the year 2000 as a young man.
I purchased a manufactured fireplace insert and paid for the fireplace store to come and frame it into a corner and run the chimney pipe through the shingled roof.
My wife and I did the drywall and then did the brick and morter ourselves. For near 20 years we loved that fireplace.
Here she is
Then a year later we built a hearth from oak and ceramic tile and installed an old fashion wood stove. Mostly for looks but loved it to. I also ran the chimney through a shingled roof.
Now fast forward 20 years. My employer in Ohio (you can guess which one) closed our factory and I was lucky enough to get a transfer to the plant of my choice. And my choice was God's country in Middle Tennessee.
I purchased a home and I move in next week. It's WAY out in the hills and lacking a fireplace. I must have one and a wood burning one at that. Nothing like smelling the smoke and every fire is different.
This house in Tennessee has a brand new 2019 metal roof. I have never owned a home with a metal roof. I guess maybe its a southern thing.
Anyhow I purchased a comfort flame insert like the one back home and here it is.
So I am not so young anymore so I decided I can handle building and framing in the insert as well as the drywall and the stone or brick finish work.
The chimney I am deciding to use triple wall chimney pipe. I will most likely hire a roofer to come and cut the metal roof and do the flashing as I have never played with a metal roof before. And being a brand new roof I dont want to destroy it lol.
I am assuming I will have to purchase other accessories to go with this pre fab unit.
So my first questions would be
#1 does this unit need to be vented to the outside wall for air intake?
#2 will i need some sort of ceiling kit where the triple wall pipe passes through the ceiling in the living room?
Anyone who can give me some tips to point me in the right direction I would greatly appreciate it. So far all I have is the insert and some 2x4's for the framing. Im lost on what else I need.
This fireplace isnt so much for heating the house its for warmth and comfort in our new home.
Thanks for having me and thanks for anyone that helps us.
