Help a Rookie out

Please help me identify this wood, I thought the first three pics was hickory til i split it. And wondering if the next pics are hickory and the first is something else. Man, I'm confused! Thanks for the help guys

Also the wood in the first three pics was hard to split, it splintered pretty bad. Is it some type of gum?

First three pictures appears to be maple
Last two pictures look like sassafrass

First one looks more like ash but it should not split stingy. Other one does look like sassafras.

really, maple is that hard to split. I haven't dealt with much wood yet, first year burning and just now starting to pay attention to the wood. I figured last pics were definitley hickory, oh well.

both trees were dead, storm took the tops out long time ago. they were just standing spears

it had a really dark heart and it splintered everywhere when i split it. almost like there was no grain.

First pick looks like a type of Elm. Not sure on the stuff with the craiggy bark but does not remind me of any maple I have come across

Second picture looks like sourwood.Oxydendrum, makes good firewood
