Help again "please" ID this wood

Hello Gang,

Got a call, sign in yard, "FREE" wood come get! I'm on it again before the vultures show up....
Knock on door, old woman says, "please" take it all, I won't let anyone else have it! OH YEA!...

kid comes over from next door and say's That was a big oak tree, I humored him a bit and sent him on his way, "BUT" now I feel stupid.... Ive burned a many of cords of oak, and I know this is "not"...
Help me out here, is this sweet gum? I couldn't find a dam seed in the yard, but they do have a landscaper.
Oh, and there is about four more loads to get....

I agree, Iv'e tried hand splitting gum before. Haven't done anything with this yet but go get it, Load two, one to go.....

Do theses help? It just don't smell or feel like maple.... And yes Defiant, I've pounded the "HE!! out of some gum, we have a lot around here, and that's what I thought it was, the spikey seed pod balls give it away, but I couldn't find a one

On my phone, but I agree with it being Norway Maple. Really nice wood and basically the best maple in way south Jersey.

Im going with Norway too, but you dont think maple? I have some green ash that sometimes has very even fine tight bark like that. Norways are heavy hard wood. I would prefer it over Ash. Heat wise they are close. I would get the wood. Is it heavy? I have Norway maples and they have lichens on their trunks too. And moss and I have dry sandy soil. Look for some dead leaves.

Thanks all, The person who cut this tree down took all the small limbs, leaves, any seedlings etc... "which" was nice, and just left the wood. I have some other maple drying, The bark isn't that close to each other in looks.... Thank's again everyone, it'll go to the maple side of the yard

Is it heavy?​

Yea, sorry I didn't get back last night, side tracked.

It's heavy!, I don't know why, maybe color, it just didn't seem like maple because it was not a huge tree, maybe 35' and covered by some much bigger oaks. It gave me 3 big loads in the pick up to give you an idea, and all the real small stuff was taken away. I haven't tried splitting it yet, we'll see, I split by hand

It looks like Norway Maple, its heavy like Norway Maple, small tree like Norway Maple, what other types of maple do you have, not going to look like silver maple.

We have red, sugar, trident, and I think "i haven't seen" they call it a vine maple? I have two red maples in my front yard, and the bark's not even close., oh and along with Norway maple.

I think you have Norway Maple. The bark of Norway is different from Red or Sugar Maples, and looks typically like the wood in your pictures. Norway Maple commonly has a darkish center like the wood in your pics (but so do several other types of tree).
