So I'm thinking of upgrading next season or maybe if the boss gives approval sooner. Right now I have a USSC 2015 Magnolia installed in the basement and it heats our ~2000 square feet rather well. I would like to upgrade to a catalyst stove just so the wife doesn't have to mess with it while I'm out. The Magnolia has a 3 cubic foot box so something the same size would be needed. Also would need to be on a 6 inch flue / chimney since what i have now is 6 inch and I know a whole new chimney will not get the nod of approval.

i'll be doing the install myself and since its a replacement and not a brand new install budget really isn't that much of an issue. the biggest issue i can see so far is the 6 inch pipe since most require an 8 inch

Yes, the 6" pipe narrows the field down. The BK Princess, Sirocco 30 are possibles as would be the Buck 80 or the Woodstock Ideal Steel.

I'm curious, why the switch from the Magnolia if it's doing the job well?

I'd like to get longer burn times, so the queen doesn't have to mess with the stove at all. right now i load it up in the morning before heading out at 5am and she'll load it up again before i get home, so i'm looking for something i can load up at 5 am and not have to fill again till about 3 pm and still give off decent (400F +) heat. i'm guessing a cat stove can give me what i'm looking for in burn times and temps from what i've read on here from you guys. and like i said its a wish list.

Go with 8" & get the stove you want .

That's just adequate for a 6" stove. I wouldn't put an 8" stove on it.
