Hello everyone

Looking for some advice on a used 2015 Jotul F 500 stove that someone is selling locally. It's a 3-hour drive and I have to rely on photos and the seller description. I have limited knowledge of what to look out for when buying used.

I would love to hear from someone here if they think this is a good deal based on the price, info, and photos I have.

The seller agreed to $850 and described it as like new. It includes the rear heat shield and short leg kit.

Is there anything I should find out about a used F 500? I got some photos of the firebox, but I really don't know what I am looking at (See attached)

- The seller did not use it as a primary heat source (limited use)
- door gasket replaced this year
- ash pan gasket replaced this year
- no cracks

I attached all the photos of the Jotul.

Any advice would be great!

Could be a nice deal but I would like to see a top down shot of the grate area, wiped clean with a damp rag. Look for spidery cracks in the corners of the grate area. If none, then it should be a good buy.

It looks like it was run hard and put away wet. Could that be 4 or 5 years old. What a difference the enamel finish is on my stove.

It doesn't look abused to me at all. Just a little dirty

The rust on the air pipes indicates wet wood was used, right?

How much does it cost to replace those pipes?

I have requested more photos of the base of the firebox from the seller. Will upload once I get them.

No that little bit of surface rust means nothing at all. No need to replace them. The baffle looks good to. Just check the base if they opened the ash door to help start fires it could be cracked there
