Help With Wood ID

Scrounged some mixed wood last week and was trying to figure out what it is. There was a little bit of pine which was easy to figure out but I’m not too sure about the rest. First one I think is Cherry?

2nd is some kind of Oak? White?

How about this stuff? It’s heavy like a hardwood and while the grain seems relatively straight it is an absolute bear to split. Nothing really worked - X27, 8# maul, wedge and sledge. The Fiskars would bounce back quite a bit and when I finally got some of it apart it’s a little stringy as you can see in the pics. Maybe Elm?

Cherry, Red oak, not sure about the last one. Never seen or burned elm but heard its a bear to split.

Might be elm, on second look it isn't white enough for ash. Unfortunately not many elm trees have any bark left on them in my neck of the woods.

the tough stuff looks like white oak to me - The bark looks right, the color of the heartwood in the end of the round looks right, I think I can also see a little of that "tiger stripe" medullary ray action on one of the splits. It's easier to split when fresh...but it can be wicked stringy afterwards.

I agree. The Cherry should be readily identifiable by the smell. Second two pics look like Red/Black Oak bark. The third three pics, the stringy stuff, looks like White Oak split and bark (it also smells good, and if the splits have been lying around a while, downright heavenly!)

I agree too. Cherry, red oak, white oak. I have found lots of white oaks that are stringy like that one.

First one cherry last is elm not sure about the oak not much experience with it.

Black Cherry and possibly Black oak..but most likely Red.
And the last 3 pics are definitely White oak.
Nice pile of wood.
