Now that demand is increasing for pellets in Europe, would it not be expected that companies will ramp up to meet their demand locally? If that happens, that would most likely drop export pressure somewhat, would it not? They do have trees there, too.

The Europeans do not have vast forest tracts of available fodder. What large tracts that do exist there are largely protected by regulation.

There is no way, the relatively few producers of pellets, can produce an
extra 4,000,000 tons, in addition to, the expanding market here...

As Spartan mentioned... England (the biggest importer) just does not have any where
near the capacity, nor desire, to produce what they need. They import around 98% of their need.

When the production, met the demand just a few years ago, and then the
demand DOUBLED, there is no way to ramp up that fast, and few that want to
invest the kind of money it takes in today's dollars.. It's one thing to expand, another entirely
to start from scratch..

Maybe in other parts of the country, or region are flush with stock, good for them.
We can't get a trailer load to save our butt......
The three places we get pellets from, right now, today, have one load for us between
all three.

Here, in the Adirondacks,

Lowes - Queensbury has about 22 pallets left of 44 that arrived yesterday (GS)

Home D " NONE for the last week although I think I saw a truckload in the lot today.

TSC " about a dozen pallets of something called First Quality - a white bag with nothing but the name on it a claim of quality

There are some quality pellets floating around the small independents but at a pretty substantial premium.

Walmarts has been receiving a few pallets 2X weekly according to friend who uses their Penningtons and buys a few bags at a clip once or twice a week.

Was going to add a pellet furnace to the wifes antique shop but am now leaning to coal.
