my neighbors(and best friends) have an englander 25 pdvc...since the beginning of the heating season, the stove has been driving them out of the house it was so hot. after running for an hr. on feed rate 1 blower speed 9 , the house would 84-86 deg. and they would shut the stove down, and let the furnace take over.
after searching thru all the posts, i found the one gio posted about the a,b,c,d modes. i went over for coffee last week, and the wife was getting ready to start the stove. i asked her to wait, and let me check the mode...it was on "C" mode. i changed the mode to "D" with a setting on the three buttons of 6-4-1, feed rate at 1 and blower speed at 9. i thought "great, we got it" it only lasted for a day, and the heat was out of site again.
friday nite i went down to my dads. he has the same stove, and it runs beautifully. so , i wrote down his three button setting of 4-4-1,and tried that with the same feedrate and blower speed....again, driving them out @ 80+ deg.
this bugged me all weekend, as they are constantly shutting the stove off, because its too hot. tonite, i went over and said to make a big pot of coffee, i'm going to be here for a while...lol. when i started with the stove, it was "d" mode 4-4-1, feed 1 blower 9. 82 deg.
i brought the first of the 3 buttons down to 3 (3-4-1) and let it go for about 20 mins, i watched the burn pot and saw that the feed of pellets slowed a tiny bit. house was still running 80-81 deg.
this time i went down to 2-4-1 not touching feed rate or blower speed. waited again for 20 mins. check t-stat in living room...80 deg. arrrgh!! i said if i turn it down anymore, its going to go out from lack of pellets. then i looked at the buttons again. all this time, i never changed the third (air on temp) button. hmmmm....i bumped that up to 2-4-2 and waited a bit...hubby called from the living room, saying i was onto something...79 deg! wooohooo...progress!
i went at it one more time and bumped the third button to 2-4-3, feed rate 1 and blower speed 9, waited 20 mins again...hubby says stop right there, 77 deg and comfy... the burn looked real good, nice and strong, plenty of pellets, and not to much air. i wrote those settings down and taped to the back of the stove...i think (hope) i finally found the sweet spot. with the feed rate at 1, it gives them room to bump up the feed rate if they need to.
