ID help needed

Part of a scrounge I'm working on. I think it's a Maple, riparian Red or Silver.

hard to tell with the age/dirtyness of the round, but i will guess black walnut. post a pic of clean end grain and a shot of a fresh split and you will get much closer gueses.

Whack a round open and post a picture of the grain please so we can tell better....

I've got some Poplar in this scrounge but this is much heavier.

I think it looks like Black Walnut. I do not think it is maple. The bark looks like Black Walnut, and the dark heartwood looks like Black Walnut.

Yep, looks like Walnut with some nice color hidden in there.

Finally got the time to wack a few open, Black Walnut it is. Didn't check it with my meter but it is burning very well.
