indoor wood storage.

Bugs in the house is not a risk-it's a given.
I used to fill a large ring with wood next to our stove. Apparently bugs that hibernate for the winter wake up in the warmth of the house.
We had all sorts of bugs crawling around. Now I keep the ring in the garage. I thought that by keeping wood next to the stove I would get that last bit of drying in, but it's not worth it.

I'm lucky enough to have a sun room about 10 feet from my stove so that's where I'll store mine. I agree about the bugs. Probably not worth the hassle.

I keep about 1 1/2 cord in the basement next to the furnace. There are some small spiders that's it.

I usually carry in 24 hours worth as a chore when I get home from work. For me it's about bugs and space for not storing indoors. I might consider moving some in the garage before the snow starts flying but otherwise I just shovel a path to the wood pile. For me 24 hours of wood is 20 or so splits so 2-3 arm loads.

It's about 4' wide and 4' high. Holds a good amount of wood. I also have a small holder near each stove. During shoulder season I can hold a weeks worth or more. During dead of winter, two days.

I use it mostly when I know a storm is coming.

One week worth in my garage. Weekend chore is to fill my trailer behind the ATV and haul in about 1/3 to 1/2 of a cord. Used to do it one bag at a time from outside, but became much easier and more sustainable for my wife when the wood was more conveniently located.

I don't have bugs in the house and have not in over 30 years of storing wood indoors. I keep about 1/3 cord in the garage, built it out of 2 x 4's.

Only time I had bug problems in the house was when I was using wood (my first year in this house) that wasn't seasoned for at least 1 full year.

I keep about 1/4 of a cord near the stove (basement stove) in a rack I built. Since my wood goes 2 to 2+ years of seasoning before coming in the house now, I have not had a problem with bugs.

BUT, that is for my area and with the bugs I have here and the wood I am using. This could vary depending on location!

The steadfast rule is that the only firewood in the house should be very close to having its time on earth in that form coming to an end....... or kiln dried.

Usually have the rack full, plus the wheel barrow....refill at about the point that it is in the picture......I try not to go low just in case for some reason I can't get out to the stacks

Guess wood storage indoors depends on the aesthetic you're after, and capacity. I keep 5 wheelbarrow loads under my stairs, in plain view. No bugs to speak of, though I'll get a mouse taking shelter in the stacks on occasion. The cats let me know when that happens.

We hook up a cart to the lawn tractor, head to the barn for a load of wood & bring in a cart to store in the garage. A cart lasts us a week or so. We bring in an evenings worth of burning each night. No bug issues.

I love my set up. I walled off part of my basement into a 9'x13' room right across from the wood furnace. I shove the wood thru a window down into the basement and i can store 5 1/2 cords in that room which is enough to get me thru winter. Only bug problem i have had is a few black ants once in awhile but not a big deal.

1 days worth of wood in the woodbox I built out of scrap tongue and groove boards and 2 x 4s.

Honestly . . . have never seen any bugs other than the typical occasional spider normally seen in most homes or the fall/spring Asian beetles/lady bugs that you see once in a while.

With the old "wood eater" we kept quite a bit of wood in the house. Now with the new stove I bring in two or three arm loads and it lasts a day or so. Looking at getting a small rack to hold the wood in.

We do get an occasional spider or yellow jacket in the house, but we need something to keep the dog entertained. She's great at catching spiders and she alerts us to those yellow jackets.(They are so not ready to come out of dormancy, that they are easy to manage.)

some good stuff/ideas here.. thx probably will do a rack in the garage (weeks worth), and one of those smaller racks (1-2 days) worth near the stove.

Rather than bugs, which we did get some, we get more moths if we keep wood in the house. It has been about 25 years since we quit storing any wood in the house and will be a lot longer before we begin again. We keep wood in a rack on the porch which is only a couple steps from the stove.

I use two plastic garbage cans and a wheelbarrow to bring it in so it gives me probably 3 days worth of wood. Inexpensive and keeps the spiders and whatever else out of the house.

Ya know one year we had a few moths but never since, not bad for 35 years.
