So while talkinng to the rep at the stove shop while ordering my F500 he told me an interesting rumor concerning VC. It seems they are deep into research and development on a new line of stoves. Apparently they want to use quadrafire burn tube technology in the VC shells.. He said he heard that is why Quadrafire discontinued the Isle Royale in favor of the cast/steel hybrid explorer line. Both companies are under the same parent umbrella so it makes sense. That would be one nice stove.

It wouldn't surprise me to see Explorer cast iron on VC's casting line floor.

Wow - that would look pretty and be functional - the best of both worlds, I will def have to keep an eye open in the future since I will be doing a second stove with my planned addition to the house.

so it would be an isle royal or explorer? They were both vc bodies with quad guts. They will just rename them. But i would be happy to see that crappy system go away now if they can just do the same with the harmans we would be good.

I think he said the VC Encore and Defiant would have quad burners in it
I really doubt they will ever give up on the encore stove. I could see them introducing a "new" design to try and revive the company.
I'm glad the rep thinks it'll sell like crazy! In reality though, the bad name goes deep, too many people have heard bad things about the brand to sell stoves like crazy.

Put out a few good stoves, and the bad ones will be forgotten.

Ford was crap not all that long ago, they turned it around quite well.

With HHT buying VC, it makes sense to put Quad's burn engine in the VC stoves, or just do away with VC names and rename them. They could do the same with Harman since they own Harman too (HHT). The bottom line with that company is how to make the most money, while seemingly being concerned and wanting to give everyone what hopefully they want. Still, HHT has done well so far with that line of thinking. One problem HHT has is it seems all their stoves are going up up up in cost. Quad makes great stoves, still sorry to see Isle Royale going away, that was one pretty stove... in my opinion.

Most people still have good memories with vc why have to spend money on advertising new brand if old one can be fixed rather easily.

Good point Brad, that seems reasonable, from a name value to an economical sense too. We'll wait and see.

The Isle Royale was a Dovre stove. Foundry in Europe and no steel stove innards. The Explorer line is entirely different, more like an evolution of the Yosemite and Cumberland Gap lines. If this change brings jobs back to VT and stabilizes the VC brand it will be a good move. But it wouldn't surprise me to see the new VC stoves as a Quad with VC cladding, much like GM's line of cars.

VC still makes some of the best looking classic cast iron stoves. Here's hoping their next is a home run!

Agree, that was a top choice to replace my Harman, because for me the only other great-looking cast iron top-loader is the older (also extinct) Jotul 12 cat.

I really like top-loading.

I think its a good development... A stove with the dependability of (well anyone else) and the looks of a VC would be my dream stove.

Yes, I've always had a radiant stove up until getting the T6. Now I am sold on the cast-iron jacket. Good looks with a welded steel box inside works great for 24/7 burning. I still like the firebox and baffle design better on the PE stoves but I think VC and BK have an edge up on hardware, fit and finish. Haven't had a chance to see the Explorer series in person yet, but Quad's older cast iron jacket stoves were quite nicely finished.

Me either - but I want to. The adventure III also. A programmable thermo on a wood stove?? Awesome. Did somebody say 4.5 cuft firebox? Yes, please. On a pedestal? Dang, I might have to look past that.:(

Edit: and to confirm, yes, my 2002 Isle Royale was a Dovre product.
