Love this site,, everyone is so helpful.
We are putting up a cultured brick veneer wall befor installing our jotul wood stove.
Any pros and cons about putting wire mesh up behind the cultured brick, or do you think we can just use a mortar.
We have cement board up and are debatging what to do next. Thank you, Jewls

I'm not sure which manufacturer's stone your using, but Owens Corning requires metal mesh over concrete board.
Better safe than sorry for what it will cost. Would really suck if the veneer started pulling away or falling off over some metal mesh being skipped.

No problemo, lemme know how you make out, I am going to be using alot of that around here.
What style/color are you using? Theres a couple styles that are modular, the pro fit styles. Supposed to be real easy, but a bit more expensive of course.

I recently installed cultured stone behind my stove. I would say you need to use the wire mesh over the cement board and make sure that you attach it firmly to the wall. The wire mesh has what they call the "scratch coat" of mortar on it. From there you "butter" the back of the brick or stone with mortar and stick it on. It actually works well but make sure that you buy the right mortar. Also be patient, it is a time consuming job but the end results are great. I will try to attach a picture of the work that i did.
