The thing is, all of November and part of December was the same way. Not a good year for the ski slopes.Enjoy it begreen, we had a run like that several weeks back.
I know, I am hearing it daily from our relatives back east. When I lived up in Cornwall, -15F was the coldest I have ever experienced and it was brutal. Back then however, long cold stretches were more common, often with a foot or more snow.Enjoy it BG- just got into the store this morning, it was reading -6 on my car temp. I've been in SE CT for the past 40 years, this might be the longest stretch of super cold that I remember.
Ya, confined to 30 deg latitude north (except out west of course). I'd rather have this cold than in Australia where it's 50C at nightIt does seem that the long range/seasonal forecast are playing out as predicted. Warming polar regions result in more variability of the jet stream that keeps the cold confined to the northern latitudes.
I did the same thing, and now thinking I need to move more under the porch!I just moved what I thought was 3 days of wood from the pile to under the porch by the back door. I’m concerned it’s not enough for the low temps we’re expecting after the crystalline do-hydrogen monoxide falls from the sky. I cleaned ash out of both stoves. If we get 10” tonight and down to low teens tonight and the next we’re going to have everything shutdown until Wednesday
Gusting to 35 tonight.

Except in the far north, where Canadians are not coming across the border. My old boss for years, Steve Wright, head of Jay Peak testified to congress about calling Canadian former pass holders who have not renewed. Used to be a big chunk of their business. And this year they’ve got something like 400 inches of snow. Also, it’s pretty cold for skiing a lot of the time here in Vermont. Probably OK if you stay in the sunshine. Here on the East Coast the ski slopes are having a great year.
You have to be hard core to want to bomb down the slopes at 30 mph with an air temps below 15F. We did a couple cold days at Sugar loaf. Almost froze on the way up. Legs warmed up on thr way down. Not much else. Into the lodge for 30 minutes then repeat. one day we did like 5 runs. neoprene boot covers helped a lot. Now with all the lithium battery heating devices I’m sure feet and hands are warmer.Except in the far north, where Canadians are not coming across the border. I learned to ski on Whiteface, AKA "Iceface". Cold and Icy.You have to be hard core to want to bomb down the slopes at 30 mph with an air temps below 15F. We did a couple cold days at Sugar loaf. Helmet goggles neon face mask. It’s been 15 years for me.I learned to ski on Whiteface, AKA "Iceface". Cold and Icy.
We wore neoprene face covers with small nose holes, that then became frozen 'snotsicles'. Havent skied in years. Dont know if they still even sell those neoprene face thingys. Recalling them reminds me of Anthony Hopkins playing Hannibal Lector with a faceguard.
Isn't 15º the temp at which Minnesotans put on a tee shirt?15 is an ideal skiing temperature. I don't mind until it gets below 0. At 15 degrees I still tailgate in the parking lot.
