Hi! Beautiful day! I bought a jotul 3CB in blue enamel. The previous owner has the stove pipe exiting the top of the stove. We want to switch it to exit the rear. I have been trying to find either the whole top plate to replace or just the smoke outlet cover. I have searched online with no success, I have contacted multiple jotul dealers, to get no responses. And the only response I did get was to say they don't make the parts anymore. So here is my question. There are some used stoves locally in my area. One is a gas stove, a jotul 3 blue enamel. Would I be able to take the top plate off that stove and replace it onto my own wood stove or would I have to find a wood stove? Does anyone know of a place in the USA that has either of these parts or a part that would work? Even if I could find a cover that is in black I wouldn't be opposed to using it. It's a fantastic stove and we absolutely love it! Thank you!

I believe you can use the top cover in the back hole.

We have the 3CB model, not the F3CB model, so when they chose the top exit, they used a mallet to punch out the hole. So I am not sure how to affix the back cover to the top if I were to punch it out.

But in this case, simple smoke cover, wouldn't it be easier and cheaper to just fabricate one? Do you have a photo or sketch of one?
I would do three other things, if I were in your shoes:
1. Set up saved searches for one with alerts on both ebay and craislist (use Craig2Mail, or one of the third-party crawlers)
2. Ask around here if anyone can provide a sketch and photo of theirs, see if you can just get one fab'd.
3. Post in our classifieds here to see if any 3CB owners here have one they're not using. Offer to buy, or at least borrow long enough to make a copy.

I had to do this with our F3CB when it was new. IIRC there was a cover smoke outlet cap and traverse bar + gasket that came with the stove. Contact a Jotul dealer if one is needed and be sure it includes the gasket. Woodmans might have the kit.

Rear exit venting
- When rear exit venting is desired it will be necessary to “knock-out” the vent hole from the rear casting.
- Remove the top casting of the stove by removing the two 3mm set screws that secures the top to the sides. The set screws are located on the outside of the stove on the top of each side panel. (Mark the rear corner with tape so that it goes back on the same way it came off.)
- Using a 10mm wrench remove the double rear heatshields from the back of the stove. Remove the front door to avoid damage to the glass. Watch for the thin washer on the hinge pin! Reminder: Loss of the door washer will result in improper door alignment when reinstalling the door.
- Using a claw hammer or a small sledge hammer strike the center of the 6” “knock-out” disc from the outside of the stove. The “knock-out” disc will break into four wedges and may need to be tapped out. Touch up any remaining sharp edges with a file or hand grinder. (Note: This takes more force than you might first expect. It helps to have a cold chisel to help clean up the edges along with the angle grinder.)
- Reinstall the top casting and front door, remembering the washer. The two rear heatshields must be reinstalled on the stove. Remove the metal cover plates from the heatshields and reinstall. Reminder: There is a small nut used as a spacer between the two heatshields. See fig 2.
- Replace the top making sure that it is centered on the gasket and laying flat when viewed from the sides. Use the allen set screws to resecure the top.
