With some of this cold weather we have been having I have been routinely running my stove around 600-650 degrees, measured at the top right hand corner of the top cover of the stove. This is taken with both a magnetic thermometer and a IR gun. It really throws the heat, however at around 625-650 stove temp the center oval plate will hit 800 degrees for a little while. I’m trying not to beat on my stove and shorten it’s life span. Is this bad for my stove? Even with a 600 degree stove top that center plate is over 700 degrees.

The center plate will get hotter, but 800º briefly there is ok. 900º not ok.
