Lightning downed tulip poplar limbs seem a little punky? worth processing and burning ?

Couple of tulip poplar limbs came down in a lightning strike this summer . Wood feels very light and the grain looks sorta punky n rotted . Splits alright though and the grain from the side looks ok. Wondering if I should take the time to buck up and split the rest of this stuff or will it be not worth burning .

It's what it is, if I needed wood I'd work it up. I use poplar for campfires as I have plenty of wood.

Agreed, if it burns it will good for something. You had to clean it up anyway.

I stack it with my pine and box elder and use it for shoulder season and camp fires. Like others I use it if I get it for free, but don’t search for it. I had a tree come down last year so I bucked, chopped and stacked it. It burned pretty good this summer.

Poplar is not much good when it is fresh and whole. I wouldn't use punky poplar. Leave it where it is it will turn in to prime mulch shortly.

Simply speaking as a long time burner,I find in the beginning and end of the heating season I'm only looking for a small heat burst to heat up the stove and then die out. That type of Fire doesn't necessarily require the best of Oak to do.

Those don't look too bad. I use some tulip poplar, always mixed in with denser, hotter wood. I never mess with it if it's soft.

Popular and silver maple, I use them for kindling.
