Got a lead on a bunch of free logs/wood.

The inside width dimension is ~21" inside my insert.

Stupid question... How close to that should I cut my logs?

Been burning bio bricks so far exclusively.

I would cut the wood 18-20" max.

I try to cut about 3 inches less than the maximum length . . . that way I have some wiggle room in case ash builds up, the wood has a bend in it, etc. I find it is a much less stressful experience to put in wood that fits in with extra room vs. trying to do the Jenga thing and then discovering that for whatever reason the split (now on fire) will not fit no matter how you try to manipulate it into place.
