Never had the need to clean my roof in the 14 years I've been here. Had to today. Damn snow's not going away and more comes every few days. I have icicles for the first time ever. .I put ice and water shield down when I reroofed but I wanted to be sure I wasn't gonna have a problem. Ever try to set up an extension ladder in 2 ft of snow? Glad i didn't have to go high. I need one of those rakes.......

Snow is up to my railings on the back deck here in Northwest RI. I've been out just about every night for the past 2 weeks moving snow with my bobcat for other people. I'm not complaining.
About 8 and a half inches here in the valley. No power outages, had sausage and buckwheats for breakfast this morning, after taking my sister-in-law to work at 3.
We got a foot in my neck of the woods. Others in the center of the state got up to 18 - 20 inches.
It was heavy.
Problem for me was the wind and drifting. I already had tall piles on either side of the drive and when the snow blows - it levels this out. So to clear my drive - I was shoveling about 2 ft of snow and my side piles are now shoulder height. I am running out of places to put it. Going down the drive is like being in a tunnel.
Took two alieve - it's not helping. Looking to buy a snow blower this weekend - but every where is sold out.
I'm getting fed up with 4+ hours of shoveling this stuff.
Brother Bart - sounds like you're prepared. A generator is something I could use too - but still don't have. Shame on me. Hope your power is restored soon!

another foot here. i have 6 foot snow banks on the side of my driveway now.. im really thinking i should have investedin the snow blower this year and waited till spring to get the splitter. lol. luckily i have awesome neighbors that give me a hand with theres.
We got about a foot, too. I took a first pass with the little Toro 2-stroke single stage snowblower last night (3 to 4 inches) and went back out this morning to get the next 8 or so inches. The little Toro handled it like a champ, except for the big 3 foot wall at the end of the driveway, courtesy of the town plow. Fortunately my neighbor has a plow truck so he cleaned up the wall for me. I usually do the drive myself because we have an L-shaped driveway and he has to back-blade in front of the garage, which leaves several inches of hard compacted snow on the drive. The nice thing about the single-stage snowblowers is they get right down to the pavement. Of course by the time I was done, I think I was getting a little high from the exhaust fumes. %-P
Upton is less than a mile from me, and they got 13.3". I'll concur.
I've sacrificed 4 busted pipes, and a drippy dining area ceiling. Raking the roof, busting icicles, shoveling shrinking wood piles. Time for some pay back, please.

BB - I am also in NOVA...well, I am in afghanistan,,,but the bette part of me is in NOVA as well and the wife reports she it also without power. Where are you in the area? BTW, we are three on he one line...so we have routinely found we are on the bottom of the "fix it" list.
16" in my neck of the woods. The snow this year is getting out of hand, I've been in this house for 8 years now and I have never seen this much snow on the ground at one time. Normally we get a little melting between large storms. The snowbanks on my driveway are so high now that if we don't get some melting soon my 23 year old Toro 624 won't be able to shoot the snow up and over them, it just barely clears them now.

If your eves start having icicles, blow in 12" more of attic insulation.
You may have ice damns too, & eventually may cause leaks into the house.
Cheap & easy fix, saves energy & saves you $$ every year forward. (fed tax deduction too)
Lowes & HD have the blower & long hoses (deposit & get it back when returned) if you buy the insulation there.

The transformer for this leg is down by the road at the end of my driveway. So any squirrel or limb that makes contact anywhere around and the fuse goes off like a bomb blast. If they would move my circuit fifty feet to the other pole we would be out of power half of the time that we are. But this time the ones that always seem to think it is kinda funny that we are and they aren't are down there huddled around candles I bet. They went out this time too. :coolgrin: I noticed tonight that after snowmageddon last year I hear a couple of generators that have shown up this year.
Not a traceable flake of snow...missed out again!

BB - We got about 8 inches in Vienna. The town goes a good job of plowing the roads. They were out last night and again in the AM, so everything was fine this morning. Also, around here the power company has been very aggressive n tree trimming since a bad ice storm a few years back, so he have had few outages in the immediate. I do plan to collect some firewood from neighbors and others with trees not near power lines.
I am familiar with the Nokesville area. My son volunteers as an EMT at the fire station there. Nice country.

BB, my 72 year old mother heard thundersnow for the first time she remembers yesterday, just outside of Waynesboro (10 miles east of me). My brother in Springfield got his power back about 6 this evening, maybe yours is coming soon.

Fridges are cold, TV is on and the outside cat is laying in my lap as I type and her very own Jotul F3 CB is warming up her place in the basement. And the 30-NC will be loaded for the night in a few minutes. Sometimes ya just got make your own lights and heat.
Life is fine out this way.
It's great to be prepared. It seems like a lost art to be able to take care of your family without relying on others. Maybe more on this forum are ready than anywhere else, I hope. Be safe.
