Here property taxes vary quite a bit from town to town. I pay 5600 but an equivalent house in some of the neighboring towns would be under 2k.You guys live in a fairy-land firewood world compared to here. Maybe I should move to NE... well, wait a minute, I only pay $1000 a year in property taxes here for my house and acreage, and its a lot warmer here in winter than in NE.
That's right, free. Only way to go in my mind. I used to do the CL scrounge thing but got tired of ridiculous demands and having to hurry or risk losing a scrounge. Anyone that scrounges ought to try calling a few local tree guys. The guy that gave me this wood has contacts all over town. The closest to the job site gets the wood. He used to deliver it all cut to length but he has a tractor with a grapple now so I get log length wood. But he's been delivering more hardwood so I can't complain.Did you say delivered "FREE" ?
That's the only thing that's been keeping me from calling....having to take some wood that I don't really want, or already have plenty of. There probably would be guys on his list that get only the top-tier stuff, and I would have to eat some crapwood. Sure would save me a lot of time and work, though...he's been delivering more hardwood so I can't complain.

Sweet. Be sure to split that birch very soon else it rots from the inside out.
Birch is the exact opposite of locust when it comes to shelf life. You do need it split and dry or it will be rotted almost instantly.Made that mistake here last year cutting a few birches on my property. Left them in rounds and they were half rotted out this spring.
