minimum flue offset?

Im a few weeks out of installing a stove in my house. A slight oversight on my part, has led to a conflicting location of where i had initially intended the support box to be installed. When i installed the ceramic tile floor and wall heat shield, i was sure i had a good clear spot between the rafters. Well once i got back up in the attic last week, taking final measurements for pipe, as i dug down deeper in the insulation (over top a vaulted ceiling), i can now see that a section of air duct will be in the way, i cant believe i did not see this when i was up there taking rough measurements last time... i was more interested in where the hole will be with regards to the roof's ridge line i suppose.... and it was probably 140F up there, and after a while, anyone will start to go crazy...

If i move the stove over roughly ~1ft to clear the duct... i think it will be too close to the edge of the tile/carpet seam, plus it will fall out of the manual's recommended floor clearances with regard to the side measurement. So i wondered about an offset, using 45's or 30's, but i cant find any mention of offsets in the stove manual for a minimum height above the stove where it can be installed. The stove will be a Drolet Myriad.

I have the single wall telescopic pipe i had planned to use from the stove to the ceiling box, and what turned out to be pretty simple, is now looking like a bit of trouble. There will be 12ft of triple wall pipe in the attic/roof, from the box to the cap.

does anyone see any potential problems with going the offset right at the stove? two 30 degree elbows maybe? i'd really like to keep the telescopic pipe attached to the support box, that way i can just slide up the entire pipe from the stove during the summer when i clean it and vacuum it out.

I'd be more inclined to use the elbows closer to the ceiling. My concern would be how they would handle the weight of the pipe above them. Definitely use solid elbows if they are going to support any weight.

it will be single wall, but i can see the point. i guess i may have to look at it both ways to see exactly how its going to sit.

Is it possible to move, modify, or reroute the air duct? Maybe this would be easier than offsetting the stovepipe. Of course this depends on whether the air duct is a plenum or branch line.

i put the elbows right at the ceiling box on most all the installs i do.it looks the best if you have to use them in the flue run

Yeah its off the plenum, plus I know close to Jack about duct work. I think I can live with the offset top or bottom, but I agree I imagine it looks best up top.

For what its worth, mine is up top. I disconnect the adjustable pipe, take it outside and clean it really well, clean the rest of the flue from the offset. Works well.

is anyone familiar with a type of black single wall pipe that Lowes sells, that is adjustable? i just called to ask if they have a few 45s, but he said they are adjustable, anyone had any experience with them? I would have liked to stayed with all duravent pipe, but this offset may end up being whatever brand Lowes has, just planned on getting 2 45s and a couple foot length of single wall that i can snip down to whatever length it comes out to be.

Have you dropped a plumb line and figured out the exact offset in inches? The light-weight adjustable elbows are not usually very good as compared to a heavy gauge one. I would stick with Durablack or DuraVent DVL if possible.

FWIW, our offset is with DVL and right off the flue collar.

thats what i was wondering about. i havent looked at it, so i dont know if its 24ga like DuraBlack or not.

I havent done any measuring yet, but the offset wont take more than a 2' section of pipe, probably not more than 1', but i'll buy it longer just in case. The support box and all that gets here Monday, then i can drop a line. I will have to start in the attic, so i can make sure the support box will clear the air duct that im having to go around, then go down and measure the offset.

i was hoping someone had something good to say about these adjustable 45's, cause the next closest place that sells duravent pipe is like an hour away.

If you can measure it DuraVent provides offset tables in their catalog.

stove pipe is no to expensive and you can have it overnighted buying online. I had my entire BBL wall telescoping system shipped and it arrived quick from Dura Vent.

Thanks I found the chart. I did see where they say thier 45 elbows are now adjustable, I believe it was a 11-12 catalog.
