Hey all we bought this quad 5100 to heat our last home and it served us well there for around 5 years. New home to us in March with a brick fireplace meant the insert was moving with us. Good bit of cutting and blocking with sheet metal to make room for the stove and close everything off. About 22' of Insulated flex liner from Rockford chimney supply. Not a pro install by any means but we're all so glad it's back to keep us toasty as the weather gets crisp. I've been lurking here since researching the install at our last home years ago. Lots of good knowledge to be had here and wouldn't have tackled it without hearth.com. Thanks to all for sharing!

Looks great. That's snug, did you have to grease it to fit?

Thanks begreen! It was tight to be sure! Made a cardboard template to see where I needed to trim the firebox. Only mod to the insert was cutting the ears off the top plate.

Wow, Super tight. Does it do a good job heating the room? Do you find it gives noticeably less heat tucked in? And will you be running a fan to help draw out more heat?

It heats the room quite effectively. It's really hard to compare to our last setup because we went from a 2k sq ft ranch with 8ft ceilings that we could heat solely with this insert to a 4k sq ft split level home with vaulted ceilings. Obviously this won't be enough for the whole home. Someday there will be a freestanding stove in the basement.

It is an insert so it has a blower built in but I'm sure with it being a tight fit there will be more heat lost to the chimney/surrounding bricks. I'd like to think that with it being an interior chimney we will get a heat sync effect and keep as much radiant heat as possible. I've seen inserts that are mounted flush in large soapstone fireplaces and chimneys and hope this will be similar. Also I did put a perforated bit of sheet metal above to pretty things up a little and let the heat come out of the box as much as possible. I took a pic at a better angle to show this.

We've only had a few fires and are reaching, at the lowest, mid 30s overnight here in sw Missouri right now. Time will tell how well it can keep up when it gets into the coldest part of the year. I think once we start to burn more continuously it will probably about heat us out of the room and we'll have to run the hvac fan to circulate air throughout the house.
