Finally got this thing in!

It's not actually new, I got it on Facebook Marketplace for $200...the steal of a lifetime. It's almost new now though, took out the fan and completely cleaned it and did a full repaint too.

Anyhow, here she is

Also want to say thanks to everyone here. I've been contemplating this and researching for over a year and it is finally REAL, in no small part to all the advice and wisdom I've received here. Did the install myself, 15' of rigid oval duraliner. Never would have thought I'd feel comfortable doing that myself a year ago but now I'm so glad I did. I pulled out the old liner that we got installed when buying the house - it was a rectangular liner for open fireplace use. Found out the insulayed liner I was quoted was not in fact insulated at all! Also, it was too small from day one (broke that 10:1 ratio of flue to firebox opening rule) so it smoked badly and was basically unusable. I think we had maybe 5 fires in the two years it was set up that way.

Looking forward to many many fires now. And some real heat!

$200! What a score! NIce work!

Thanks guys. I wouldn't have ever bought this surround had i bought it new, but now after seeing it I actually like how it looks in the room better than the other options.

Unfortunately I only thought I was done with the install. I realized after that the Roxul is releases more fibers than I thought (thought it wouldn't release any after being installed) so I'm going to have to make a proper block off plate and also a block off of sorts for the side and rear of the unit. In the meantime I'm only burning with the blower off as I really don't want to blow fibers throughout the house.

So, a bit of a bummer but nothing that can't be fixed.
