My turn to boast about my wood

This is the first winter in this house - stove isn't installed yet. This is all wood that I have scrounged from freecycle/CL/knocking on doors, and all carried in the back of my minivan... I did carry 1/2 a cord in one go once, with the rear chairs removed - never again, very dicey - even a 1/3 is pushing it.

I have about two cords dry, hope some more will be ready when I need it - we'll see. Apart from this picture I also have >1 cord of oak that is baking in the sun (but won't be ready). About a cord and half is pine/hemlock, the rest a mix of maple/locust/oak. Now that its all split and stacked I have an empty feeling inside and a need to continue collecting for next year....

I've had this before with picasa and hearth.com. Some people can see them, others not...

These stacks look good! A bit high if you have small kids playing around....

Nice woodpiles and nice panorama shot. Do you have a digital camera that stitches them together automagically or did you use some software? Supposedly my camera can do it but I've yet to try out the feature.

It looks like a good spot for drying. You must get some nice breezes.

So it looks like you took a picture of the neighbor's woodpile then.

Great stash for someone without a stove. Most guys with a stove would love those piles for burning.
Once the stove gets installed you should be nice and warm.

Here are my little stacks. 4 piles 16-18 inch wide 5.5ft tall, and each row and 16ft long. Then a starter stack... I calculate about 8 cords with the smaller stack. All split last year and this year...the furthest to the left is a softer maple... The rest is red oak, hickory, ash, and some choke cherry. I included my wood haulers too.

Thanks, that was 6 months of my life. Every weekend and after work! I designed , built, and planted the whole think about 7 years ago... Really is nice to come home to...
