New Member and a Chimney Liner Question

Hello all. I am new here and decided to join the forum after reading just about everything. I am going to start this off by diving right into a question.

I currently have a Heat and Glo RSW41 Zero Clearance fireplace. I am wanting to rip this out and install a Kozy Heat Z42-CD. I decided to move in the direction of this fireplace because of the price, actual firebrick and others positive feedback on this forum.

My question:
Can I use the Existing chimney liner ( i believe its 8") as a chase to install a 6" chimney liner? If possible, is there anything i need to be aware of?

No, it will need a new chimney system.

You will need a 6" class A chimney. Don't forget to purchase an anchor plate for the top of the unit if you are doing it yourself.

I do want to install this myself. In your experience, with this model, what complications have you encountered during an install?

Is there anything that should be added toward what the manufactures manual says?

I just got to thinking. Is there any EPA fireplaces that would mount to my existing chinney? I attached a photo.

Not to my knowledge. You will need pipe thats rated for the higher temps of a stove.

Just for information purposes , the reason you need a new chimney is because that sl330 is only rated to 1,500F. You need a 2,100F rating which will come from the class a pipe.

Another possible option would be to extend the hearth and put a freestanding rear-vent stove on it connected to a stainless steel liner up the ZC chimney. This would depend on the height of the lintel on the fireplace relative to the floor because it would need to clear the rear vent flue collar height.

I found that Home Depot sells 6" x 36" Duravent triple wall chimney. Wouldn't that be considered class A?

I'm trying to find where the best deal would be to purchase the chimney supplies. Any suggestions?

Yes, their triple wall is their value line of Class A. Do you have a Menards in your area? They usually have good pricing on Selkirk pipe.

You also need to make sure the Z42 allows the use of the pipe you choose. I don't think triple wall is approved for it. Personally I would not use air cooled pipe. Selkirk super vent is gonna be your most economical choice.

They are specific to the pipe. Get it wherever you get the pipe.
