New P61A install

Just finished installing my new Toy- a P61A purchased from Hearth Designs in Hooksett, NH. Built the hearth pad myself with 3/4" plywood, 1/2" cement board and some leftover tile from our bathroom floor. Using the Harman OAK and APC BE750G UPS. It has done a good job so far of keeping our 2500 sqft colonial warm, though it hasn't been very cold. Using an Ambient Weather WS-10 wireless digital thermometer to monitor the temp in the bedrooms. So far maintaining a 4-6 degree difference between first and second floors. My wife is sick of listening to me talk about how excited I am with it so I thought I'd post some pics of my baby to brag a little...(broken image removed)

Great looking setup with your UPS I assume......you should run a few power out tests with and without the ups to see how your exhaust handles it, as you might find that without any rise on the exhaust there may be some smoke backing up into the stove.....if it happes the fix is easy enough, just add 3 - 5 ft of vertical.

Nice looking install and nice home. I'm heating a colonial, a little over 2000 sq ft and the p61 has done her job without breaking a sweat. Keep her clean and feed her and she'll treat ya good.

I would move that room temp up off the floor to get a more accurate room temp. I have a corner install also. I put at hopper height in the corner.

Perfect fit, the P61 and that sq footage makes sense ! Looks good in there. I had considered a side of the fireplace install as well but the wife wanted no part of it. I too would suggest a little vertical rise in the vent but you may find it works fine as is ( easy to clean if nothing else).

If he has the oak installed, as stated, smoke in house should not be a problem with no vertical run, as the oak creates what should be a sealed loop.

Very nice install,nice stove.For brewer-most stoves are not "sealed' most have openings for glass air wash,which is why a lot of people reccomend a short vertical.

For bob bare: harman products are typically sealed up tight as a drum.....even the air wash....just sayin

OK but most stoves have an gasket opening at door glass,upper or lower.Do not know about harmans.

Very nice! I see you went with a stand alone and not an insert... I am having an Accentra insert installed tomorrow and like you WERE, very anxious to get the new toy! Friends of ours just purchased the Harman XXV from Hooksett. I got mine in Brookline.

I also just installed a p 61a in about the same size house. I put it in a room on the first floor with a stairwell and it is doing a great job heating the entire second floor. The only "problem" I am having is getting the heat to move into a large adjoining room (18x32) with high ceilings and lots of glass. By problem I mean this room is 68 degrees. I know I could crank up the 61a but that may roast me upstairs. I put a box fan on the floor between the two rooms where the open French doors are to blow cold air into the room with the stove. I am thinking about installing a corner doorway fan to try to blow some warm air out of the room with the heater into the big room. Any advice would be appreciated. So far I love this unit. My oil burner only kicks to heat my water and that is great considering oil at 4.20 a gallon!

If your existing oil burner system has a "fan only" option, you might try that. You may find that it distributes the warm air more evenly throughout the house. Some folks have had success with this while others not so much.....depends alot on the layout of the house and the ductwork.

I have baseboard heat, but I do have central ac and the return is on the top of the stairs, I'm not sure if that would work being that all the vents are in the ceilings and not the floors.

68 degrees? What is the issue?

It really hasn't gotten that cold out since I out in the stove. I'm just worried when it drops into the teens in Thursday I will need to get more heat in that room.

Hoping the UPS will take care of smoke in the event of a power outage. Just need it long enough to get the generator running . . .

Looked hard at the Accentra insert, but not sure it would keep the whole house warm. Happy with my choice so far. Getting cold the next couple days. Let's see if it can keep up!

What about a ceiling fan at the top of the stairwell it's cathedral there. Will that help keep some heat down stairs?
