Newbie looking for advice on insert connection - what's the difference in installing one of these

The boot, I think, is made to fit over older inserts or those with square or rectangular connections and convert them to round?

Thanks Webbie. Are there any downfalls from using the boot? When I got my used freedom bay insert, it came with the boot. The only thing I can think of is during cleaning all the creosote will drop down on top of insert instead of dropping back into insert. Any thoughts?
