Hi all,

Hoping for some opinions on 3 issues I’m having on my Quadrafire Mount Vernon AE insert. It’s about 15 years old.

1) It’s very noisy (video attached). For reference, I can’t at all hear the adjacent TV at normal volume while it’s running. Is this normal?

2) There’s a significant draft coming from it when it’s not in use. Is this coming from the top of the chimney? The outside air kit? The ash dump door? Maybe all 3?

3) Possibly related to #2, often a day or two after use, my whole room smells like ash (I’m assuming from the draft).

Please help! Thanks in advance for your opinions!

Down drafts, no matter what heating appliancs is caused by your home
needing air to replace air removed from the envolope like from a Kitchen
vent hood fan or a Bathroom vent fan running . Maybe a furnace using
inside air for combustion . How tight is your home? It is also the reason
for the ash smell.
The noise sounds like a bearing going in the Combustion fan or the circulation fan
most likely will need replacement
