Noodling on a Relaxing Sunday Evening

Just finished noodling some 36" oak cookies that were 6 inches thick. I could have split 'em but why bother getting the splitter for that. I will say that the 441 noodles much more assertively than the 290. Shouldn't come as any surprise, but I'm glad I have a little more h.p. at times. I will say that it uses noticeably more fuel though.

Try my 460s. They drink fuel quick! But I'd still say they put more wood in the truck per gallon than any 290.

That's what it comes down to. Productivity. If you're using gas, but getting more done, then that is a good trade off.

I think it's frustrating to sit there on a cut for a long period of time. I have limited time and want to do as much as I can in that time. Waiting on a saw is not my idea of a good time.

Precisely why I get frustrated with my 036 Pro. Most seem to love that saw, but I find it unbearably slow at anything beyond maybe 12" diameter.

Yes. Its the older version. But newer than the 036.

How many CC is the 441? Oh wait this is a stihl not a husky. Its the newer 440!! I was thinking this was a husky saw, and could not understand how a 40cc saw was noodeling Bette than a 60cc saw??

I used to noodle with a 56cc saw and the 70cc noodles better. That's all. Want to noodle a couple more logs tonight.

When I last cut wood I was to tired to lift the last 140# rounds into the truck so I noodled the last couple. My chain on the 390 was cutting circles from me nicking the ground as I cut through the rounds. Was to lazy to swap chains so I grabbed. My 45cc saw and finished the noodeling. Slow but I did it with straight cuts!

Nice...I hear you. How fast does a chain dull in normal cutting not hitting the dirt or other objects? I dressed the chain last night with a file in anticipation of some cutting tonight. I hope to do 30 minutes. That's enough to get done what I have and not be overly tired so I can't do other chores / tasks.

I can fill about 2 full size trucks before its noticeably dull. I rarely hit dirt. I am very particular. This one was so heavy and pushed to the side by a bobcat so it was in the soft dirt more than normal. It really wasent dirt it was more like duff but still. A few low speed nicks in like 2 rounds as I trued to get the last bit and that was it. Wasent equally dull more one one side as it was cutting crooked.

Some odd pine local tree service left me,making a few test cuts.I'll probably use them for something,like woodturning or resawn into thinner pieces eventually. If they cracked too bad when drying,then they get burned.Just had the big mac a couple weeks,back in early May.Hadnt been cleaned,repainted,carb adjusted or needed parts replaced yet.Just got it going to see what it could do.Definitely no slouch in the torque department,even before final tuning.
