I say this each year.......
This year it has come earlier than usual........
I have had ef-kin nuff!!!
December never happened, it has been January since the end of November.
I remember getting maybe a total of a couple weeks of this crap each winter, yet this winter is a constant barrage of just plain damn cold.
I have had enough, and am personally ready for Spring! The lure of burning and enjoying is done, and it is now a damn chore. Sure I enjoy it most days, but ready for some normal outside temps.
The entire country is going through this, so we are all in the same boat.
BB and my fellow southerners, I feel for you guys, snow & ice where it should be sun & mild. Global warming my friggin arseh-le!
You guys up in Canada & Alaska, kudos to you. Must have smaller homes or super duper efficient, cause I have no clue how the hell you would keep it warm, even with a Blaze King LOL.
Saw 1 day gonna be 32, then calling for a high of 18, this is a cold damn winter, everywhere!
Winter.......GTFO!!!!!!!! Spring..... WELCOME!!!!!!
Rant is over, thank you..................

;-)

We'll try to send you out some warmth Hog. The left coast started out cold in Nov. with Thankgiving deep freeze. But although we've had a few chills since then, for the past few days it's been silly balmy. We haven't gone below 50 even at night since Wednesday. Grass is green even if the skies are grey.

Well you just suck!!!!!!!
Send that over here PRONTO!!!!!!!!
MY woman is on the eastern side, and they are having about the same I got, cept they got much more snow than here.
Think she said it is just starting to get a lil warmer now.
Send it east, STAT!!!!!!!!!!

Put some chains on the Hog and enjoy the reduced traffic law enforcement this time of year.

I can't figure out what I want. We had record heat last summer. Record snowfall last winter and then this year Jan. and Feb. temps started the first week of December. I would just move to St. Thomas but then a hurricane would blow me away.

There just ain't no pleasing me I guess.

Hog, it was like this last year in our area also. Less snow this time, though. The three stoves is keeping this place warm. But if I don't manage them right, the cold will prevent the house from getting up to the desired temp. This means I need to turn on the furnace for about 30 minutes to burn out any cold that may have crept in if my overnight burns were less then optimal.

I thought I thaw a thaw but think the thaw went through, without thoroughly thawing anything in need of thermal therapy. So we thrash through the thick thoughtless Arctic thrust, and thread through and thrive in its thrill and hope that we thee a thaw thoon.

WTH? you getting "shack happy" already? around here, if you said that, people would ask you "what you going to do when winter comes?" !! time to take a trailer for the bike and head south...or just start the bike and listen to it. cheap therapy, right? hang in there and keep burning

In Hog's defense, we have been 10-15 degrees colder each day than the seasonal average since the beginning of December. At least the damn wind finally died down.

LOL  Man I feel for you guys and know I would be miserable with a continuous cold spell like that (or a heat wave like the south saw last summer). I'd probably be the grumpiest curmudgeon on the planet. That's one of the reasons we moved to a more moderate climate. I don't miss snow at all. If I do, I go up in the mountains to appreciate it.

Tell you what, take all the local wind turbines and reverse wire them to run like motors. Then point them west and blow the cold air toward the warm. Works, I read it here on hearth.com. :)

Oh, sure, blame it on the cold - sounds more like a little too much from a bottle..... :)

I think he's got something stuck in his teeth ;-)

I hear ya Hogs, loud & clear. I haven't used kindling since before Thanksgiving, nor has the fire gone out, except for 1 day to check both chimneys. It was a balmy 38 out that day, I believe.

I just checked the heating degree days and we're colder than normal too. It looks like our winter started mid October.

The best way I've found to deal with it is to find a snow sport you like. Snowshoeing, skiing, ice fishing, etc.

...or hauling fresh cut wood through the snow like we did Tues/Wed.

Did you know when you roll a 28" diameter round through the snow you just might have a great base for a snowman? :) :) :)

Well... it finally turned colder here. Was too mild to burn 24/7... had to keep letting the fire go out. It was mild last night so I let the fire go out yet again... woke up to a cold stove and -25°C this morning. They're calling for -31°C tomorrow morning so I'll be keeping the fire going.

Your idea of mild is disturbing.

"December never happened, it has been January since the end of November."
Ain't that the truth!! I started burning the middle of Sept. this season. Will this NEVER end? Oh, the humanity!
Dennis, have another. Thuferrin thuckatash!

Spring is just around the corner. Today was over 40 F. And, I have started receiving seed catalogs. Gurney's arrived recently. I like burning wood, but it is a means to an end. If the sun will freely provide the "end", I would be happy.

Take a little glance at the forecast for Friday night.

Let it be known henceforth and forthwith that no one south of the Mason-Freezon line may declare the start of spring! HogZ ,have at it!

Sounds like your itching to get out on your bike. 8 below here last night. Seems like it has been snowing for 5 days. If it's not a storm it's lake effect. My 5 year old son is riding the chairlift( I have to put him on it) and skiing down the mountain unaided this year. It is pretty cool to watch. So, I am pretty pleased that we have the snow. Maybe in 2 weeks I will feel the same as you.

Goofball weather today here. 45 and cloudy this afternoon. Still 42 at nine at night. But supposed to be low twenties before sun-up. Impossible to load for a night like that without running us out of the house at bedtime.

But an icy mess on tap for around Monday night and single digits headed this way for next Friday night. I know how to load for that.

I don't think Michigan hasn't been any worse than normal. December was a little on the chilly side for a couple weeks but you'll get that from time to time. It looks like we have some cold weather coming but we'll deal with it. :)
